There is something spiritual that comes with going into the underground and exploring the world of caves. As you venture deeper into the underground its as if you are coming closer to the soul of the earth itself. As you venture into the world of caves time comes to a stop, the sun is gone and when the lights go out you find a new definition of what darkness really is. The world of the underground is amazing enough when you adventure above the water table but when you combine the underwater aquatic world with the underground world of caves you are with out question experiencing something that a very small percentage of the world will ever experience first hand.

With an upcoming return central florida known to many technical divers as “Cave Country“, I can not think back to my first time cave diving. My mind was filled with a combination of fear, excitement and a need to know what was beyond the range of my lights. Its a pleasure to know that in less then a week I will be introducing four divers who I am proud to call friends to the world of cave diving. We will spend four days together in Cave Country as they learn the basic skills required for safe cave diving. The four days will be focused around training in the cavern zone (the area still insight of the cave exit), learning skills and getting a taste for the underground world.

As many of you know I often find myself going on and on about the need for proper trip planning in order to have a successful trip, so with that in mind preparations for the departure started days ago. With less then 48 hours left before departure for the 14 hour drive to cave country the truck is loaded with tanks and almost ready to roll! 7 Sets of doubles, 6 40cf stage bottles, 2 80cf stage bottles and a Emergency O2 Kit in a pear tree provide the arsinal of over 1,500 cubic feet of breathing gas to enjoy the underground world and all that does not take into account the 3 planned gas refills!

In addition to a a large number of dives with my students I am greatly looking forward to a couple of full fledge deep penetration night time cave dives with a few local friends.
