I recall the days sitting in my office and looking at my wall of accomplishments, and thinking well ok what next. The wall of accomplishments is a common sight in most offices in the corporate world. Simply put its a wall of pieces of paper in shiny frames that tells everyone who enters your office just how important and accomplished you are. These sheets of paper now sit in a folder in a filing cabinet in my home office hidden away from the world.

“You should be proud of all you have accomplished” people say when they learn just how many sheets of paper and certification cards are stashed away in a forgotten filling cabinet. My response to these people is simple: Be proud not of what you have accomplished already, but what you will accomplish in the future!

I spent over a decade working in the corporate and government worlds, enjoying all the comforts that a true career provides. When I learned of the upcoming birth of my daughter my life changed. I wanted to spend time with my daughter and demonstrate the worth of your life has nothing to do with the size of your paycheck and the physical things you acquire but instead the sum of our experiences discovering the world has to offer.

These days I spend my days discovering what the world has to offer and educating others in how to take advantage of the natural wonders the world provides us with. All to often I find myself wishing I had started down the career path of self discovery earlier in my life, but with out the past it is impossible to understand the true value of what the future has to offer us.
